We are delighted to share some exciting news from our bakery in Market Drayton – Billington’s Gingerbread has been awarded a 1-star rating in the prestigious Great Taste Awards 2025! This recognition is a proud moment for our team and a testament to the enduring quality and flavour of our heritage gingerbread. 

What Are the Great Taste Awards?

Organised by the Guild of Fine Food, the Great Taste Awards are the world’s largest and most trusted food and drink accreditation scheme. Since the early 90s, they’ve celebrated exceptional products through a rigorous judging process. Each year, over 14,000 products are blind-tasted by more than 500 experts – including chefs, buyers and food writers. Only around 30–40% of entries receive any award, making this a truly meaningful achievement.

Our 2025 Result

This year, our gingerbread has once again caught the attention of the experts – earning a coveted 1-star rating from the Great Taste Awards 2025. This mark of excellence is awarded to products that are simply delicious and stand out for their quality and flavour. We’re proud to share some of the highlights from the judges’ comments:

 “These gingerbreads have a rustic appearance and a very appealing snap and shortness in the mouth. These are well baked biscuits with a long-lasting, finely-judged ginger flavour and deft levels of sweetness to deliver a full and balanced spicy mouthful…

 “Chunky and crunchy, these are attractive and have a gentle ginger heat. They could probably take a bit more spice, but this is a versatile biscuit that would, as suggested, pair with sweet or savoury bakes, and go particularly well with blue cheese. The ginger develops warmth on the palate and leaves a clean hint of the spice on the finish. They would also be good if you are a dipper.

 “These biscuit fingers have an attractive appearance, and the texture has a fabulous biscuit crunch. There is a high level of sweetness along with cinnamon and the ginger character does last….

“These biscuits have a distinctive appearance with the moulding. They are firm and have a particularly open structure when cut. Some ginger notes are present on the nose. On the palate, some spice flavours come through with plenty of bitterness. The texture is light, crumbly and quite dry. These are curious biscuits…”
